Our Safeguarding Commitment

At EWPA we are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our children and also our wider community of staff, visitors and families. All of our staff and governors have read and committed to part 1 of 'Keeping Children Safe in Education' (DFE). They recognise and understand that safeguarding children is the responsibility of everyone.  Safeguarding is a priority and ‘the golden thread’ that runs through our school and our Academy Trust.

In our school, we aim to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children through early intervention, vigilant and rigorous safeguarding procedures and through effective and efficient record keeping.Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined, in Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE), as:

  • Protecting children from maltreatment;
  • Preventing impairment of children’s health or development;
  • Ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care;
  • Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

School staff are particularly important, as they are in a position to identify concerns early, provide help for children, promote children’s welfare and prevent concerns from escalating.

All staff have a responsibility to provide a safe environment in which children can learn.  All staff should be prepared to identify children who may benefit from Early Help. Early Help means providing support as soon as a problem emerges at any point in a child’s life.

Our school believes that all Staff and Volunteers should provide a caring, positive, safe and stimulating environment that promotes the social, physical and moral development of every child.   We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent, effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children and staff at our school.

What is safeguarding?

Every member of staff, parent/carer and visitor who comes on to our school premises has a duty of care towards the welfare and safety of the children who attend our school. This is called Safeguarding.

Every child can potentially be hurt, put at risk from harm or abused regardless of their age, gender, religion, ethnicity or disability.

Safeguarding means that:

  • Children are protected from mistreatment
  • A child’s health or development is protected
  • Children grow up with safe and effective care
  • Action is taken to ensure the best outcomes for all children

Safeguarding is the action we take to promote the welfare of children in our care and to protect them from harm.

Everybody's Responsibility:

Keeping children safe is the responsibility of the whole school community, this means even those visiting the school have a responsibility to report instances of actual or suspected abuse or neglect to the Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs).

The Designated Safeguarding Leads in this school are: Mrs Jo Whiley (Co Headteacher), Mrs Chris Daly (Assistant Headteacher). The wider safeguarding team of deputy DSL's and DSL tranined safeguarding practitioners are : Mrs Maureen Moore (Co Headteacher), Mrs Kate Johnson (Assitant Headteacher), Mrs Simone Tuersely (ACE tutor), Mrs Michelle Skinner (ACE tutor), Mrs Amanda Wellings (ACE tutor), Mrs Nicola Sayers (ACE tutor and FLO), Mrs Laura Asbury (Attendance Officer).

The DSLs take lead responsibility for safeguarding and children protection (this includes online safety) and are available to provide advice and support to other staff on child welfare and child protection matters. The DSL’s and the wider safeguarding team, take part in strategy discussions, interagency meetings, Core Groups and Child Protection Conferences and contribute to the assessment of children by providing reports, making referrals and attending meetings.

Confidentiality:

Information from parents about possible child abuse cannot be kept confidential. Information and records about children will be given only to those people who need it to keep a child safe and will be kept strictly confidential by them.

The school adheres to a strict whistle blowing policy which applies to all staff members, Governors and volunteers in school. It outlines who and where report concerns about staff conduct relating to the safeguarding of children to.
