EWPA Local governing Body

Every school has a governing body to represent the public in the running of schools.

School governors bring perspectives from ordinary life and work with the staff and the Kemnal Academy Trust to help secure the best possible education for the children in the school. They have important responsibilities like managing the school budget, overseeing the curriculum and appointing staff.

 

  • Promote high standards of educational attainment
  • Set targets for pupil achievement
  • Take general responsibility for the conduct of the school
  • Manage the school's budget, including deciding how many staff will work be employed and set their pay
  • Make sure that the curriculum is balanced and broadly based, in particular that the National Curriculum and religious education are taught, and report on pupils' achievement in National Curriculum assessments and examination results.
  • Participate in the appointment of senior staff (including appointing the head teacher) and regulate staff conduct and discipline; and
  • Draw up an action plan after an inspection by the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted)
  • All governors attend a series of formal meetings with agreed agendas throughout the school year to discuss matters critical to the running and monitoring of the school
  • Individual governors visit the school to meet with staff and pupils to discuss specific topics and report back on their findings through written visit reports
  • Individual governors attend various classes to observe education in action and to speak with pupils about what they are learning, how they are learning and how they are progressing
  • Meet with parents on an ad hoc basis to get feedback from them on the school and how their children are getting on
  • Attend meetings with TKAT and / or other external parties to represent the school and discuss the approach and progress being made
  • Act as an independent escalation point in the event of complaints or disputes
